If you’ve had your eye on the Too Faced Chocolate bronzers, but aren’t sure which one to choose, then today’s post is perfect for you! I’ve been a huge fan of both bronzers for a long time, they smell amazing and have a really natural finish. There are differences between the two though, so I thought I would show some swatches and let you know which one I would choose if I could only have one.
Chocolate Soleil Bronzer Medium/Deep (Original) – This is the first chocolate bronzer Too Faced released, and it’s also the darkest. Infused with real cocoa powder, this matte bronzer has excellent pigmentation and a delectable scent. Unlike Too Faced eyeshadows, which are really buttery, the texture of this is a little on the dry side. If you’re familiar with the texture of NARS powders, this one has a very similar feel. Despite the fact that this isn’t soft or creamy, the color payoff is still really nice.
If you’re on the pale side, you’ll need to use a light hand to apply this, because it can look intense. For that reason, I prefer to use a MAC 109 brush. It has a small brush head, so I can control where the color goes and avoid an oompa loompa type situation 😆
Once you get the hang of this bronzer, the finished result is really natural (see it in action here). If you’ve struggled with Benefit Hoola, and found that it looked muddy or dirty, then I would give this bronzer a try. It has the same deep color payoff, but it wears nicer on the skin. This is my go-to cheek product whenever I want to look like I just returned from vacation!
Chocolate Soleil Bronzer Light/Medium (Milk Chocolate) – Like the name suggests, this is the lighter, easier to wear sister of the original bronzer. It has the same yummy scent, but it’s formulated for those who aren’t comfortable wearing more intense bronzers. It doesn’t swatch very well, in fact it basically looks like nothing on my arm, but it looks so beautiful on the skin.
Unlike the original, this one has a more luminous finish. The bronzer itself is matte, but when applied to the skin, there’s a hint of glow left behind. It’s not sparkly or frosty, but it’s definitely not 100% matte. You’ll see what I mean when you see the swatches.
This is the bronzer I reach for when I don’t know what else to wear, it’s simple and doesn’t involve any effort. Because it’s not intensely pigmented, it never looks overdone or harsh. If you’re around my skin tone (MAC NC20), and you want an effortless bronzer, this one will be your new BFF. Sadly, because this is really light I don’t suggest it for you beauties with medium to dark skin.
So, if I could only have one, which would I choose? Milk Chocolate! I grab for this one a daily basis because it’s really subtle and doesn’t require any effort. It has a luminous finish, and you don’t have to worry about it looking too harsh if you have a heavy hand. While I adore both bronzers, I feel the Milk Chocolate version is better suited for everyday looks.
You can find both of these online or in ULTA and Sephora stores for $30. Which one do you like best?!
