When it comes to primer, my motto is “the more, the merrier” and one look at my makeup collection will prove that I’m a priming addict. While I have a ton of favorites, the two I’m going to be talking about today have been on my radar for quite sometime. One is a makeup industry favorite, and the other is a drugstore gem. I’ve given them both a fair chance to impress me, and now it’s time to dish about which one I like best!
NYX ANGEL VEIL SKIN PERFECTING PRIMER
Angel Veil retails for $15.99 (1.02 oz), and is available at ULTA and on nyxcosmetics.com. It comes packaged in a white squeeze tube, with a metallic pink cap. Here’s what NYX has to say:
This super silky, light and fresh formula creates a comfortable cushion on your skin to enhance makeup application. The incredible formula creates a smooth, uniform canvas that minimizes shine and makes application flawless. Your skin will feel like it has been touched by an angel.”
The texture of Angel Veil is lightweight, and easy to blend (like a lotion). It’s not heavy or greasy, and it instantly absorbs for a silky finish. It feels hydrating on my dry skin, and it’s undetectable once blended. Powder and liquid products blend effortlessly over top, and it even helps to minimize the look of pores.
As far as increasing the wear time of my makeup, I find that my blushes and foundations hold strong for about 8 hours – which is definitely longer than if I don’t wear a primer. I also notice my t-zone remains shine free all day!
HOURGLASS VEIL MINERAL PRIMER
Veil Mineral Primer retails for $52 (1.0 oz) and is available at Sephora, Nordstrom, and hourglasscosmetics.com. It comes packaged in a sturdy glass bottle, and features a convenient pump. Here’s what Hourglass has to say:
This clean, satin-finish formula helps keep makeup looking fresh and prevents fading. Veil Mineral Primer also absorbs excess oils and minimizes the appearance of pores by evenly distributing light to help hide and soften the look of skin imperfections and fine lines.”
The texture of this primer is similar to Angel Veil, it’s lightweight, easy to blend, and it leaves behind a silky smooth finish. It’s not thick or heavy, and it’s free of fragrance, parabens, oils, and gluten.
Foundations glide over this primer with ease, and it leaves my skin looking matte and smooth. Like Angel Veil, blushes last for 8 hours, and my t-zone never turns oily or shiny.
DRUGSTORE v. HIGH END
Both of these primers have amazing silky textures that make my skin feel like velvet. My makeup stays put all day, never turning greasy or shiny. However, the Angel Veil has a bit of an edge over Hourglass. I wore both of these at the same time, one on each side of my face. The Angel Veil side appeared smoother, and my pores less noticeable, while the Hourglass side looked a bit more cakey and my pores were not as diminished.
Another major advantage to the Angel Veil, is the cost. At just $15, you can buy three for the price of just one Hourglass primer. Plus, it comes in a jumbo size for $24, while the jumbo size Hourglass is a whopping $72!
THIS OR THAT….
No surprise here, my choice is NYX Angel Veil! It’s budget friendly, and performs just as well (if not better) than the Hourglass primer. Plus, it’s travel friendly tube ensures you’ll never cry black tears of mascara after it accidentally shatters.
Are you surprised by my choice? Which primer would you choose?
