Like most beauty junkies, I have a serious addiction to hair products. My bathroom counter (and cabinets) are filled with products that promise to add shine, detangle, and prevent frizz. Although I have a few staples in my stash, I’m always on the hunt for the next best thing. So, when the opportunity came to try a new line called Hair Recipes, I was super excited to give it a try. Is it worthy enough to gain a permanent spot in my lineup? Keep reading to find out!
This sulfate and paraben free hair care line is available exclusively online at hair-recipes.com. There are four other speciality shampoos to choose from, all targeting different hair types and needs. The formula I’ll be talking about, is the Egg & Cognac Shampoo and Conditioner, which is best suited for normal to dry and chemically treated hair.
Retailing for $14.95 (8 fl 0z), the Egg & Cognac Shampoo promises to restore shine, and prevent breakage. It’s formulated with proteins from both eggs and cognac to build strength, and maintain hairs natural oils. It features a gorgeous tropical scent (think fruity mixed with a little coconut), and it’s ideal for those with limp, lifeless hair.
The texture of this shampoo is silky, and although it’s sulfate free, it lathers really nicely. It glides through hair with ease, and washes out without any fuss. It can leave strands feeling a little dry, but the conditioner more than makes up for that. The formula works fabulous on my straight hair (which is thin in texture, but thick in density), as well as my daughters baby fine curly hair.
The coordinating conditioner retails for $16.95 (8 fl 0z), and is also formulated with eggs and cognac to restore hydration, and encourage stronger hair growth. The texture is creamy, and detangles instantly, while adding back any moisture lost by shampooing. It features the same incredible scent as the shampoo (seriously, this stuff smells SO good), and it washes out without leaving hair feeling heavy or weighed down.
To go along with the shampoo and conditioner, Hair Recipes also sent me their Macadamia Oil. It’s formulated with vitamins B, E, and A, as well as fine oils from pressed macadamia tree nuts. It’s fast absorbing, non-greasy, and works beautifully on dry hair to tame frizz, add shine, and smooth fly-aways.
There are three other oils to choose from, including Argan, Jojoba, and Carrot oil. They retail for $18.95 (2.8 fl oz), and are paraben free. Plus, you’ll find an expiration date on the bottle, so you never have to guess if your product has gone bad. I wish all hair care came with that!
I am in love with this trio! It’s hard for me to find formulas that can tame my frizzy hair, without weighing down its fine texture. Not only does this leave my strands soft and shiny, it keeps the pouf away and cleans well enough for me to go 3-4 days between washings (yet it doesn’t dry it out one bit). The oil is also weightless, hydrating, and of course smells delicious. I highly suggest all three products!
