The makeup industry is constantly changing. It seems every week a brand is releasing the next “must have” palette. Not only is it expensive to keep up with it all, but sometimes it’s down right exhausting. So, today I’m sharing my top palettes that are tried and true, and most importantly permanent – meaning you can always get your hands on them!
1// TOO FACED NATURAL EYE PALETTE ($36)
This was one of the very first eyeshadow palettes I owned, and I hit pan on every single shade in my original. Since then, Too Faced has revamped the packaging (it’s now slimmer and metal), and replaced some of the shades. Still, it remains one of my top used and re-purchased eyeshadow palettes. The neutral shade selection is easy to wear, they blend like a dream, and the formula is buttery smooth. You can check out my go-to look featuring the Natural Eye Palette, here.
2// TARTE TARTLETTE MATTE EYESHADOW PALETTE ($46)
One of my favorite all matte palettes! I adore the formula of these shadows. They are super creamy, easy to blend, and beautifully pigmented. Although the shades aren’t groundbreaking, they are perfect for everyday use, especially if you’re working in a professional setting. They are also wonderful for mature lids, or those who don’t like shimmer, glitter, or metallics.
3// LORAC PRO 2 ($44)
There are a ton of LORAC Pro palettes out there (the original, the 3, the mega’s), but this one is my favorite. It has a great mix of warm and cool toned shades, and the formula is one of the best I’ve tried. They are creamy, easy to blend, and amazingly pigmented.
Like all Pro palettes, the top row features matte shades, while the bottom row is all shimmer. Mattes can be tricky, but LORAC seriously nailed their formula. The shimmers are equally impressive, leaving behind a luminous finish, without any chunky or over the top glitter. I’m obsessed with Rose and Mocha!
4// KAT VON D SHADE + LIGHT EYE CONTOUR PALETTE ($48)
I like to call this my palette of transition shades, because the majority of these work perfect for that purpose. Not familiar with transition shades? It’s the shadow applied slightly above the crease, to help with blending (so you aren’t left with harsh edges). For my skin tone, I reach for warm beiges or mid-tone browns. So…pretty much half of these shades.
The formula of KVD mattes is perfection. They aren’t chalky or dry, they blend effortlessly, and the color payoff is intense. Like the Tartelette Palette, at first glance this doesn’t look like anything special, but the easy-to-wear shades are great for no fuss makeup days.
5// URBAN DECAY NAKED PALETTE ($54)
Last, but not least, is the neutral palette that started it all. This post would not be complete, without featuring the OG Naked Palette. Despite all the options out there, I still think this has the best shade selection (for warm tones). It’s got lights, darks, golds, browns, lid shades, transition shades, blending shades…it’s perfection!
One minor issue I have previously discussed about this palette, is the fall out. I’ve gotten better at controlling it, but some of the darker shades will leave a mess under your eyes. So, with this you’ll want to do your foundation after your eyes!
What do you think of my top 5 palettes? See any favorites? I’d love to know what your top are!
