My main beauty struggle, aside from frizzy hair, are my chronically chapped lips. For years, I struggled to find a product that would keep them looking healthy – and believe me I tried them all (including a $50 Chanel balm). But, a few months ago I re-discovered the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment, and my pout finally looks hydrated and flake free!
I first discovered this heavenly balm about 10 years ago while in college, and was instantly hooked. Eventually, I decided to try other products, but after trying tons of duds, I decided to come back to this. Then, as fate would have it, Fresh contacted me and sent over a huge box of all their treatment variations. I’ve got their OG, advanced, and tinted balms to talk about, so let’s get to the good stuff!
Each balm is formulated to treat dryness and rough texture, while delivering sun protection with SPF 15. They feature a light citrus scent, are are free of petroleum, mineral oil, and lanolin. Its unique blend of sugar, and nourishing oils, protects and hydrates lips for up to six hours.
The formula features sugar, a natural humectant that helps to prevent moisture loss. Meadowfoam, and black currant seed oils to help maintain hydration levels. The coveted lip treatment features grapeseed oil, and vitamins C and E, which help to smooth and soften. They are also rich in antioxidants known to protect from damaging free radicals.” Fresh
ORIGINAL & ADVANCED
The original and advanced versions are very similar. Both, are un-tinted and leave lips feeling hydrated and smooth. However, there are a few differences. The advanced formula doesn’t contain an SPF, and is formulated with sea fennel and orange extract, to smooth the look of fine lines. It also promises to keep lips hydrated for up to 24 hours, while enhancing lips volume. In terms of hydration, they are both stellar, so I highly recommend them both!
HONEY, NUDE, ROSÉ & BLOOM
I was so excited to try the tinted formulas! There are a ton of options to choose from online, so I definitely plan to expand my collection. In the meantime, these are getting tons of love. The formula is just as hydrating at the original, and the coverage is sheer but buildable. They aren’t the longest lasting, so you’ll want to keep them on hand for re-application. But, if you’re looking for an easy to wear (no mirror required) tined lip balm, these are fabulous.
Honey and Nude are the two I’ve been reaching for most, as they are super easy to pair with any look. Honey is a warm nude, with a hint of brown. While Nude is a beige, with a peachy tint. They can enhance the look of chapped lips if you apply with a heavy hand, but they are healing, so you know you’re doing your lips good while wearing them.
Rosé and Bloom are stunning! I was a bit scared of Bloom at first, as it’s really dark in the tube and in swatches, but on the lips it’s a subtle rosey pink. Rosé is very similar, just a smidge lighter, like a your lips but better shade.
Just a word of warning, these get very soft when left in direct sunlight or in the car. If you apply them when they are warm, they will break, so keep them in a cool dark place. I learned that the hard way, after breaking off a huge chunk of Bloom – oops!
Overall, I think these tinted balms are great for no-fuss days when you want a little color, without the maintenance of a lipstick. The OG formula is still my go-to during the day, while the advanced has been my new bedtime bestie. Each balm retails for $24 (the advanced in $26), and should last about 3-4 months with everyday use. You can purchase them at Nordstrom, and Sephora.
